Pictus catfish (Pimelodus Pictus), Is a very active and nervous catfish, it is silver colored with scattered black spots throughout the body. The main feature of this fish is the extremely long barbells. These can extend all the way to the caudal fin. They have very sharp spines on their dorsal and pectoral fins. Be careful wile handling this fish, it will get its dorsal and pectoral fin caught in nets. This fish has a downturned mouth and a forked tail.
They are active swimmers and enjoy a dimmer light. Like many catfish they need some hiding places in the aquarium. It is mostly a nocturnal fish. They are omnivorous, but they will hunt and eat small fish such as small tetras and small guppies. They are a non-aggressive fish and will not harm fish too large for them to eat.
